Steaming over Beattock – phase 2 The Route
The West Coast Main Line (WCML) was, and still is, one of the busiest rail lines in Europe. In this project the section between Carlisle and Glasgow is portrayed in the late 1950s, early 1960s. Many intermediate stations and signal boxes were still in operation, and so too were many goods yards. The modelling is based on the DLC "WCML-N" by RSC/KeithMRoss, but regressed from the 1990s by about 40 years, with OHLE and motorways removed. The project was started by John Rutherford, and is described by him here https://carinthia.sftt.co.uk/routes-cg.php.
Since he is no longer able to complete it, I have taken it over (with his guidance). It is still a "work in progress", with the first phase being from Carlisle to Carstairs (where many passenger trains split for different destinations in Scotland) and on to Law Junction (where many freight trains split).
This second phase sees the regression on to Motherwell using 2 different paths, and then on to Gartsherrie on the Central Scotland Line (which leads to Perth). The final phase will take us on to Glasgow Central, incorporating many of the South Glasgow suburban lines. Much of the trackwork for this phase is already in place, but not all scenery has been completed/regressed. Hence, it is driveable throughout.
Quick Drive scenarios from Carlisle, Carstairs, and Glasgow, both passenger (from stations) and freight (from goods yards), with numerous destinations are included, together with a number of other scenarios. Further ones will become available shortly. Manuals describing the route and scenarios will be found in the Manuals Folder in your Railworks installation.
As well as the passenger stations, goods yards and carriage sidings, there are (and will be) a number of facilities for loading/unloading freight. These are/will include coal mines, power stations, minerals terminals, container facilities (yard cranes and not straddles), plus non-working timber, oil, and chemical terminals. Many of the Lanarkshire and Glasgow iron and steelworks are/will be modelled, providing good sources for scenarios. In addition, most stations had working water columns on each side of the main line, or in sidings/passing loops.
A Manual is available for Scenario Creators.
You will have unzipped the archived file. The Asset files are needed to ensure the Route scenery is complete. The signal Asset files are needed to ensure the Route functions correctly.
To install, put the .rwp file in a handy place (such as on your desktop). Open up the Railworks/Utilities application, and then "Package Manager > Refresh > Install", then navigate to the .rwp file. You may have some of the Assets already in your Railworks Folder - you may choose whether to overwrite or not.
Players install these Assets at their own risk. They have been checked using Bullguard Security Suite
